Experience
Three Decades at the Intersection of Music and Finance

About
Who is Stan Dwight?
Stan Dwight operates at the intersection of music, finance and intellectual property, advising catalogue owners, music companies, investors and rights holders on valuation, strategy and corporate transactions.
His career includes senior financial and commercial leadership roles within some of the music industry's most recognised organisations, including London Records and Chrysalis Music, alongside advisory work spanning catalogue acquisitions, royalty analysis, capital planning and transaction support.
Combining deep industry knowledge with financial expertise, Stan provides independent advice built around the realities of the catalogue itself rather than the objectives of a buyer, seller or intermediary. His work is trusted by artists, songwriters, estates, publishers, labels, investors and management teams seeking clear, objective guidance.
Today, through his independent advisory practice, Stan works internationally on music catalogue valuations, rights strategy, acquisition support and corporate advisory assignments, bringing more than thirty years of experience to every engagement.
Career Background

30+ Years advising at the intersection of music, finance and intellectual property.
There are a fair number of advisors who can model a catalogue and a separate group who genuinely understand how a music company runs. The overlap is narrower than the market tends to assume. The CFO and financial controller roles at London Records and Chrysalis Music shape how Stan reads a catalogue today: not as a spreadsheet exercise, but as a set of rights, relationships and revenue lines that behave very differently in practice than in a buyer's model.

Education
MBA Research — Music Industry Transformation
Henley Business School · MBA (Music Business)
University of Reading
In 2016, Stan Dwight completed MBA research at Henley Business School examining a question that remains highly relevant today:
“What competencies will define the future of the music industry over the coming decade?”

Conducted in collaboration with UK Music, the research explored how technology, changing consumer behaviour and evolving models of value creation were reshaping the industry's long-term structure.
The study identified several emerging themes that would go on to become defining characteristics of the modern music business, including:
- The growing strategic importance of intellectual property ownership
- The convergence of music, technology, finance and brand partnerships
- The migration of value creation beyond traditional recorded music revenues
- The increasing importance of adaptability, leadership and cross-sector collaboration
- The need for stronger strategic thinking in an increasingly complex rights environment
The research concluded that future industry leaders would require a broader combination of commercial, analytical and relationship-based skills, enabling them to operate effectively across creative, technological and financial disciplines.
Looking back, many of the themes identified in the research anticipated developments that have since transformed the industry, including the rapid growth of music rights investment, catalogue acquisitions, streaming-led business models and the increasing financialisation of intellectual property assets.
Today, these same themes continue to inform Stan's work advising rights holders, investors and music businesses on catalogue valuation, strategic transactions and long-term value creation.
Many of the themes identified in 2016 would go on to become defining characteristics of the modern music business.
A Decade Later
The research identified three critical success factors for long-term industry development:
- Vision
- Learning to Learn
- Critical & Analytical Thinking
These principles continue to underpin strategic decision-making across today's music rights sector.
